Participant Information Sheet

Who can take part?

  • You must be 18 or older.

  • You must smoke cigarettes or use tobacco products, or have smoked or used tobacco products in the past

  • You must live in the South East of England (e.g. Kent, Sussex, Surrey, Hampshire, Oxfordshire, Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Isle of Wight), but not live in Milton Keynes

 

Who runs the study?

  • The survey is being conducted by Information by Design on behalf of another organisation (who are funding the research). We will tell you the name of the organisation at the end of the survey.  Information by Design are members of the Market Research Society (MRS) and abide by their Code of Conduct.  

 

What is this study about?

  • We want to understand more about people’s tobacco use, quitting, stress and wellbeing.

  • It takes about 10 minutes to complete.

 

What will I do?

  • Answer questions about smoking/tobacco use, quitting, stress and wellbeing.

  • Answer questions about where you have seen any recent adverts or information about smoking and wellbeing.

 

Why take part?

  • Your answers help improve public health support for smokers.

  • If you complete the survey, and give us your contact details for this purpose only, you can enter the prize draw for the chance to win one of three prizes – the first prize is £250, 2nd prize is £100 and 3rd prize £50. 

 

Do I have to take part?

  • No, it is your choice about whether you take part or not. 

 

Privacy and data use

  • Your answers are anonymous. Even if you choose to give us your contact details, we will separate these from the answer you give so that your individual responses cannot be linked to you as an individual. 

  • You can choose to give your contact details at the end of the survey if you would like to enter the prize draw, to be contacted for further research and/or to receive further information. If you give your contact details, these will only be used for the reasons you have agreed to.

  • All data are stored securely.

  • Your individual answers will be shared with the funding organisation for research purposes only.

  • The anonymised data may be shared with the University of Bristol.

 

Risks and support

  • Some questions ask about stress and smoking/tobacco use.  If you need any help please contact your local stop smoking service.
